While perhaps lacking the impact and appeal of Wii Sports , this similar showcase for Nintendo’s then-new Switch shines when it comes to cheeky, detailed motion controls. Working in tandem with equally refined HD Rumble, 1-2 Switch feels more like a simulation (albeit a strange one) than a game, despite the basic aesthe
While the gameplay itself has been viewed as spotty and shallow, to put it mildly, 1st Playable Productions at least uses the motion in a clever, ‘tasteful’ manner. Players will partake in swiftly cutting up, preparing, and cooking different food items. Actions include things like cracking eggs, spreading butter across a pan, and dicing up vegg
You got a myriad of branching pathways and areas to flank, defensive positions, and high-ground walkways and platforms where snipers, Bastions, and Torbs can set camp. The map is elaborate enough for veterans to exploit but palatable and closed-in enough for newer players not to feel overwhel
Taking a page out of the Splatoon playbook, id Software and Bethesda take a “best of both worlds” approach with the player interface, utilizing traditional control and motion to their advantage. With this sequel to the 2016 hit, Doom Eternal brings the usual adrenaline-pumping chaos players expect from this classic FPS seri
Games like Apex Legends and Fortnite have really shown the awesome potential and appeal of an epic, exciting battle-royale. While a hero-based shooter like Overwatch doesn’t tend to mesh with this more equalized style of FPS, in which everyone starts at ground level, Blizzard could certainly make it w
We also need to talk about loot boxes, since Overwatch was responsible for increasing their popularity outside the mobile space. Ultimate Team was already a thing, but Blizzard showcased how easily cosmetic items could be monetised through random packages of goodies earned by either levelling up or buying them outright. I had friends who would set aside entire evenings during seasonal events to grind for boxes, hoping that Blizzard would be kind enough to let a legendary skin fall into their laps. None of them were playing for Lifeweaver Petal Platform strategy fun, instead waiting for that brief hit of serotonin that comes with a rare drop. Or they could spend money, and as the profits have long shown, so many of us went and did just that.
Still, it would at least make sense to allow for cross-play across the PS4, Xbox One, and Switch servers. This would open the doors for an even more vast pool of potential players, essentially ensuring you won’t deal with ghost town lobbies. There is a likelihood Blizzard will ultimately implement this, but as of now, it’s just a ru
Ninja Theory’s Bleeding Edge is a brawler take on the hero, objective-based online world. Each character has their own look and abilities that make you stand out. While each individual has something to offer, it is split between the classic archetypes of support, tank, and hea
In the realm of extreme sports games, this is a creative twist on dodgeball. The various modes will determine how arcadey and wild your matches will be. You have more tame ways to play that maintain its wacky style. Win matches and gain new cosmetics to go into matches with st
While not quite a shooter, if you want a major shift in the hero-based space while still getting a fix similar to Overwatch 2, Knockout City makes for a great breath of fresh air without the actual fresh air of abandoning your gaming p
Even getting past the heavy use of Blizzard gimmicks, the layout of the map itself can also be annoying. With its narrow passageways and higher-level paths that criss-cross it, any defending team worth its salt tends to have a huge advantage; especially near the bottleneck that makes up the beginning/Assault portion of the game. The only real advantage for the attackers tends to be the indoor portion at the end – but good luck making it th
Like its Wii spiritual predecessor, This breakthrough hit fitness game shocked gamers and non-gamers alike, making its case that exercise could be fun. Unlike 2007’s Wii Fit , however, Ring Fit Adventure fleshes out the fitness foundation with rewarding RPG gameplay that truly has substa
Overwatch 2 was announced much too early, likely to pave over controversy at the time surrounding the company and its many scandals. We were given an awkward glimpse at PvE content that wasn’t ready for the spotlight in the slightest, while progression systems linked to certain characters have been dumped entirely in the version coming next month. Blizzard didn’t know what it wanted the sequel to be, and it still doesn’t, so we are stepping hesitantly into a future where I desperately hope this hero shooter can earn its place. The original game is being shut down as it arrives, with its younger sibling intended to replace everything it stood for as heroes, cosmetics, and everything else is carried across as part of a hopefully seamless transition. I’ll miss what is being left behind, and so will many others.
